I had a gallery in Dallas (Collectors Covey), owned by my friend Bubba Wood. He started handling my originals in 2000. He suggested I paint the South Texas Whitetails that are such a popular trophy species. I took two trips to South Texas to photograph the unique landscapes, and also the beautiful animals. I've painted plenty of northern whitetails and was impressed with the different look of the Texas deer. Some have more distinct markings around their eyes, are smaller in stature, but have impressive horns. I also noticed the horns were a different color, the same as the raw umber of the dirt. This painting was sold at the Dallas Safari Club convention auction.
