After the success of my first print "Splitrock Snowy", I used another of Doug Murphy's photos of this grouse, to create the painting. I was just getting started with photography and he was a big help in getting me going with camera gear. Plus we had a lot of fun on photo trips! Other than the snowy owl and this ruffed grouse that Doug gave me, I have taken all my own photos, which I'm proud of. Many artists use photos taken by others regularly and miss the excitement of getting 'out there' and getting original material. This second print of my wildlife career also sold well and allowed me to quit the construction business and be an artist. However, I still love doing carpentry work, just not all the time!
