The contests are always held in the fall for next year's stamp. So in the fall of 1994 I entered this painting of a gadwall. Gadwalls are not very colorful, but a big 'bull' drake is a very handsome duck. I used the background color to really warm up the painting and I think it is almost equal in quality to my federal winner.
